As summer winds down, the annual routine of “Back to School” shopping for school supplies and clothing gets underway. This year, members of the West Suburban and Weiss families again stepped up to help families in our communities get their kids ready for school.
West Suburban hosted a wonderful Back-to-School Event in the front parking lot on Saturday, August 12, donating more than 100 backpacks filled with school supplies for residents of the Austin/Oak Park area. The event was the 20th annual Back-to-School Fair sponsored by the West Side Pastors’ Coalition and Inner City Health, which was led by the late Reverend Stanley Stephens, a long-time member of WSMC’s Governing Board. Weiss participated in Back-to-School Events at Brenneman School on Saturday, August 12, and McCutcheon School on Thursday, August 17. Weiss gave 50 backpacks to each school and enough school supplies to keep students well-equipped for the coming school year.
Collectively, the hospitals gave away more than 200 backpacks and thousands of pencils, markers, colored pencils, erasers, pens, rulers, notebooks, glue sticks, and crayons.
Thanks to all of the Resilience staff members who helped make sure that the kids in our communities would be ready for school this year. And thanks for your contributions to the future – today’s students may well become the next generation of Resilience employees and physicians!
