Weiss Memorial Hospital’s Dr. Sebastian Ko named Team Physician
Weiss Memorial Hospital and Edgewater Castle Football Club (ECFC) have announced an exciting new partnership that names the Chicago Center for Orthopedics at Weiss the official orthopedic physician providers of the soccer club along with RUSH Physical Therapy who will be providing physical therapy and athletic training services. ECFC will be participating in the Midwest Premier League and United Women’s Soccer league in 2023.
Starting with the 2023 season, Weiss’ Chicago Center for Orthopedics sports medicine team will support the Edgewater Castle FC team and its players with all their healthcare and orthopedic needs, on and off the field.
Orthopedic Surgeon Sebastian Ko, M.D., will lead the Weiss team of sports medicine specialists that includes Jeanette Kelly, D.O., and Julie Kafka, D.O. The group of physicians will cover home games to ensure the Edgewater Castle FC players are healthy and performing at their best.
Dr. Ko is a former NCAA Division 1 athlete with a strong interest in the treatment of athletic injuries. His experience includes treating elite athletes while serving as the assistant team physician for the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs, and Rockford IceHogs professional sports teams, and the Northwestern Division 1 collegiate football team.
“We are excited to partner with Edgewater Castle FC in the care of their players and programs. Our sports medicine physicians are athletes themselves and understand how critical prompt medical care is to the health and wellbeing of the players and the team’s overall success,” stated Jerry Henley, LAT, ATC, director of Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Development at Weiss Memorial Hospital.
As sports medicine partners, the soccer club’s players have access to Weiss’ Fast-Track program year-round. The concierge-level service guarantees athletes can be seen quickly by an experienced sports medicine specialist and have all their imaging completed within 24-48 hours.
“Edgewater Castle FC is thrilled to be partnered with Weiss Memorial Hospital for our 2023 season. Since our founding in 2017, we have aimed to give our players as supportive an environment as possible, and this partnership allows ECFC the security of a club doctor who can provide advice and treatment when necessary to our men’s and women’s 1st team squads. Not only is Weiss Memorial Hospital serving as our club doctor provider for the 2023 season, but they are a longstanding and engaged member of our community. We are grateful to have their support and look forward to a wonderful year ahead,” commented Andrew B. Swanson, general manager for ECFC.
